Outside - my back yard

Hard to stay inside when this is going on outside. I'm heading out now...

Plant Moves - Back Centre

Kelly has been busy the last couple of days.  He moved the tall 'David' and 'Blue Boy' phlox from here to the far end of the back centre garden (behind 'Laura').  Seems strange because they had been in this spot since the garden was first planted.
From that spot he dug up the pale pink Oriental lilies and moved them here.  He also moved the pink monkshood here.  Some of the purple iris will go back along the left side.  Two 'Mojave' lilies will be moved into here, along with the sea holly from the rock garden.  Hoping to get two dahlia in here next year too - Glenbank Twinkle and Orchid Beauty.

So Pretty

This will probably be the last of the dahlia pictures - forecast calls for frost tonight :(

Calm Before the Storm

The weather has been too hot to enjoy the garden all week.  I wanted to capture this picture before Earl hits tonight.

Blooms

The pineapple lilies are in full bloom.  The gallardia recovered after its move and looks great with the calendula.  Phlox in the back garden blooming all over the place.

Lobelia plus Bee

I really love this lobelia and I have to wait till late summer every year to enjoy it.  It's tall - over my head - and bright, and a good compliment to the Opus One lilies.  If you look closely you can see a bee mooning me.  I watched him crawl right into all these blooms - he was quite loaded up with pollen.

I'm having to do some watering every evening and no rain in the forecast.  Kelly potted up Endless Summer and Danielle's orange daylilies so we can find them permanent spots in the garden in the fall.

Back Centre Map

There are still a few plants missing, and it's far from perfect, but it feels good to have this done.  Next, the rock garden.

Back Centre Garden

It's all blooming wonderfully!  Tom Pouce holds centre stage and I really hope that I can get more papyrus next year.  The pale pink rose mallow and blue lobelia are filling in nicely.  Opus One lilies tower in the back.

My Garden Gift

A wonderful gift from Debi.  I'm trying it out in different places.  Next year I can picture it out front with nasturium climbing through it.

Sea of Pink

Monkshood in front of pink lilies.  Not sure why I didn't like pink flowers at one time either.

Red Hot lily and purple aster both popped their first blooms today... seems early for the aster.  Kelly has been hanging in the 'Henge all day, tossing rocks around.  I tried to thin out the flax and poppies but it seemed too much like killing unnecessarily, and they all seemed to be doing ok, so I decided to let them fight it out among themselves.

Fragrant Garden

Came around the end of the garden today and got a wonderful whiff of these lilies.  They're a perfect match for the tall pink monkshood that is still filling in.

Rescued my white bleeding heart (spectabilis) today.  Kelly found it growing a couple of leaves where I thought it had died (in the ring garden).  Moved it to the west side with my bluebird hydrangea.

First tiger lily opened today and the front garden is very colourful.  Art Deco dahlia are filling in nice along the wall.

I saw Carrie out last night with a flame thrower... big thing she was dragging around like she was vacuuming her driveway.  She's much more dedicated to pesticide free gardening than I am!  (On the other hand, I usually have them pulled before I have to take drastic measures.)

Jack & The Countess

This is another one of those things I did last year that has turned out wonderfully this year.  I guess it means so much more when you have to wait a year to find out ;)

And... the pineapple lilies have 3 stalks that will bloom.  Yoohoo!

Pretty Pink

Pale Sweet William in the back centre garden.  This was just moved here on the weekend and didn't miss a beat.

Japanese Iris Again

It's starting to lighten up and look more like the tag.  It's really quite large and beautiful.  I can't wait to have a whole patch blooming next year.

Japanese Iris

A new purchase this year and this will be the only bloom.  Doesn't look like the tag picture so I'm not sure if the name is right.

A new Dutch iris is starting to open that's really dark.

More Hens & Chicks

These are pinker than the other patch I posted and surrounded by wooly thyme.

The back garden is looking great, even without all the blooms, and I think we actually might have more grass than weeds in the back yard.
